Kakadu National Park

 

—The park was founded in 1981 and received its name in honor of the tribe "Kakadu" living on its territory and to this day. It is the largest national park in Australia - an area of 19 thousand sq. M. km.

—The natural boundary of the park - terrible, steep cliffs, height from 400 to 500 m. They are bordered by the park, protecting it from the storms. Kakadu Park - a unique archaeological, ethnological and natural reserve. In this area are two of the most famous caves with Aboriginal rock art. Preserved specimens are considered the best in Australia and one of the best in the world.

—Kakadu National Park pitched his possession 200 km. from north to south and 100 km. from east to west. In the park there are more than 1700 species of plants. Fauna is represented by 280 species of birds, 117 species of reptiles, 77 species of freshwater fish, 1000 species of insects and 60 species of mammals. This wealth - the result of the geological structure of the park, landforms, and a variety of habitats - from shady swamps and dense forests to the torrent flowing rivers and open sunny glades.

—According to the Park flow two major rivers - Noarlanga Creek and Majdal Creek. They swim like freshwater, safe for human crocodiles and giant sea saltwater crocodiles, horror at all the inhabitants and visitors to the park, and the legendary Australian fish - . This is one of the lungfish. The length of this fish reaches 2 meters.

—The diversity of frogs - the pride of the Park. Here there are about 22 species. Among them: the bullfrog, marble frog, green tree frog and etc.

—Despite the fact that the forests of Kakadu National Park look as if on them have never gone before, this is not true. According to legend, the "first people" appeared in Kakadu still in "the time of dreams" or during the creation of the world, when from the earth came our forefathers, who, wandering the world, plunged into the rock, leaving only the surface of your prints. Aborigines believe that their ancestors still live in the southern part of the park, called "strange disease" and therefore warn tourists to those trod cautiously and did not wake the sleeping gods.
